Today I am celebrating 1 whole year of being self-employed!! Wow! This year has definitely flown by and as I’ve sat here reflecting on everything that has happened I am so thankful to God that I get to spend my days doing what I love and get paid to do it.
Of course not everything in this past year has been an easy ride. Freelancers often talk about ‘feast or famine’ and I’ve certainly found that to be true; there have been many times when I’ve been tempted to worry because I don’t have any work to do and there have also been times when I’ve been tempted to worry because my to-do list just seems too long!
It’s also always very easy to compare yourself to other designers and creatives and to end up feeling inadequate because their Instagram feeds look so perfect and their portfolios are so polished, but I’m slowly teaching myself to not be disheartened by other people’s success but instead to be inspired by it. There are so many talented people in the creative community and I have so much to learn!
This year has also brought lots of highlights and I’ve been fortunate enough to get to work on some really exciting projects. I’ve illustrated a few books, designed lots of lovely wedding invitations and done lots of fun stuff that I never dreamed I would get the chance to do. I’m so excited for what this next year holds and I’m looking forward to sharing part of my journey with you, through this blog and also on Instagram and Facebook.
To celebrate Paper Cafe’s first birthday, I’ve got a massive sale over in the shop, for today and tomorrow only you can get a huge 30% discount on everything in the shop, no discount code needed! I’ve also re-added some Christmas cards if you’re super keen! 😉 View the sale here!
Thank you so much for reading this blog and supporting my small business. Bring on year 2!
